I work for a call center, and I am required to sit in a tiny cubicle day in and day out taking calls. Needless to say, the company won’t spare much money for office furniture for a cubicle. There’s no room for much office furniture, so office chairs are one of the only things they will order for us. After 6 months on the job, my back started hurting. I just couldn’t take sitting in that flimsy little chair any longer. I asked my boss if he would let me look at some executive chairs for my cubicle.
At first, my boss said no. He said the company doesn’t order new office chairs for employees unless the old chair breaks. I told my boss that sitting in the chair all day was making me feel like my back was breaking, so what was the difference? I made a deal with him. I asked him to sit in my chair for a day and see how he felt at the end of the day. He took me up on the deal and tried it out.
My boss didn’t even make it for a day sitting in my chair. He apologized for not agreeing to let me order new office furniture. He showed me where the executive chairs were in the office supply catalog and let me pick one out. After I got my chair, he decided to go ahead and get the whole office new office chairs. Everyone ordered executive chairs.
