For the comfort – and health – minded individual, the ergonomic chair is selling itself. How many attractive, but uncomfortable, chairs have been in waiting rooms, living rooms, and offices over time? How often have you sat in one of those chairs, attracted by its design or color, only to find yourself looking around for a better place to sit?
The leather office chair, supposedly the epitome of executive privilege, may have been among the most comfortable of chairs. Especially used as a desk chair, one could be very comfortable performing the office tasks. Yet over time, especially in the last two decades, there has been the need for chairs which surpass mere comfort to provide more specific comfort. Hence the development of the ergonomic chair.
When shopping for one of these you will find or hear terms like “additional neck roll” or various “rocking mechanisms.” The neck roll and rocking mechanisms enable the user to sit or semi-recline more comfortably while talking on the phone or conducting an interview, because the pivot point under the chair is closer to the front of the seat. Some chairs come with options such as extra support for the lower back, or extension arms, which provide a mini-desk so one can sit back from the computer monitor.
Of course, faux leather ergonomic chair exist which are optionally equipped the same, and bring a touch of humane consideration to the whole executive workplace. There are now so many types of ergonomic desk chairs which sell themselves by adding to comfort of those in the office environment, thus making task-completion a more pleasant experience.
